Better To Give | Providing Every Child the Opportunity to Give
Remember your excitement as a child the first time you gave someone a gift? But when you’re a kid whose family is barely making ends meet, participating in the holiday spirit of giving to others simply isn’t possible.
Better to Give makes sure Phoenix area low-income children can experience that joy of giving, and translates that experience into giving back to their community!
During the holidays, low-income children from Valley Boys and Girls Clubs and the YMCA will select and wrap small presents from a temporary ‘store’ of donated gifts, and give them to family and friends in need. They will be mentored by older children during their giving experience. Next holiday season, these gift-givers will return to assist the next group of children as they give to others, ultimately fostering a sustainable interest in volunteerism in their community.
In an era where it’s so often about ‘what you get,’ we hope to change those attitudes by teaching children about the importance of giving to others.
